چکیده

We use an extremely large volume (2.4hGpc), high resolution N-body simulation to measure the higher order clustering of dark matter haloes as a function of mass and internal structure. We are able to measure clustering for haloes corresponding to rarer peaks than was possible in previous studies. We use a novel “cross-moment” countsin-cells technique which suppresses discreteness noise. This allows us to extract, for the first time, halo bias parameters from linear up to fourth order. We find that for all orders measured, the bias parameters are strong function of mass for haloes more massive than the characteristic mass M∗. No theoretical model is able to reproduce this mass dependence closely. We also find that the bias parameters depend on the internal structure of the halo, even up to fourth order. Our results will provide useful inputs to theoretical models of galaxy clustering.

Signature of primordial non-Gaussianity of φ-type in the mass function and bias of dark matter haloes

We explore the effect of a cubic correction gNLφ 3 on the mass function and bias of dark matter haloes extracted from a series of large N-body simulations and compare it to theoretical predictions. Such cubic terms can be motivated in scenarios like the curvaton model, in which a large cubic correction can be produced while simultaneously keeping the quadratic fNLφ 2 correction small. The devia...

Assembly bias in the clustering of dark matter haloes

We use a very large simulation of structure growth in a ΛCDM universe – the Millennium Simulation – to study assembly bias, the fact that the large-scale clustering of haloes of given mass varies significantly with their assembly history. We extend earlier work based on the same simulation by superposing results for redshifts from 0 to 3, by defining a less noisy estimator of clustering amplitu...

Dark matter halo occupation: environment and clustering

We use a large dark matter simulation of a cold dark matter ( CDM) model to investigate the clustering and environmental dependence of the number of substructures in a halo. Focusing on redshift z = 1, we find that the halo occupation distribution is sensitive at the tens of per cent level to the surrounding density and to a lesser extent to asymmetry of the surrounding density distribution. We...

A nonlinear and biased view of dark matters

Studies of the peculiar velocities of galaxies and clusters of galaxies suggest that much of the matter of the universe is dark. The spatial distribution of light, the galaxies, is most probably not the same as the distribution of the dark matter. I present a very biased view of how these two distributions are related. In this view, galaxies form in gravita-tionally bound dark matter haloes, an...

The Assembly History of Dark Matter Haloes

We study the mass assembly history (MAH) of dark matter haloes. We compare MAHs obtained using (i) merger trees constructed with the extended Press Schechter (EPS) formalism, (ii) numerical simulations, and (iii) the Lagrangian perturbation code PINOCCHIO. We show that the PINOCCHIO MAHs are in excellent agreement with those obtained using numerical simulations, while the EPS formalism predicts...
